UPI ID Unified Payments Interface identifier, also called a VPA
A UPI ID is a short address such as name@okhdfcbank that stands in for someone's Indian bank account, letting them be paid without sharing an account number.
UPI is India's real-time payments network. A UPI ID — also called a Virtual Payment Address, or VPA — is the handle a person publishes so others can pay them. It points at a bank account, but it reveals nothing about that account.
For a recipient, this is the difference between handing over an account number and an IFSC code, and handing over one short string. For a sender, it removes the two details most often typed wrong.
Payments to a UPI ID are credited in rupees, usually within minutes of the transfer being funded.
